möchte das LIBREAS-Team auf das BOBCATSSS-Sympsoiuum 2008 im
kroatischen Zadar hinweisen, das dem fachlichen Austausches zwischen
dem Nachwuchs in Wissenschaft und Praxis dient:
"BOBCATSSS
ist ein internationaler Kongress mit Themen aus der Bibliotheks-
und Informationswissenschaft, der jährlich unter der Schirmherrschaft
von EUCLID (European Association for Library and Information Education
and Research) stattfindet.
Die BOBCATSSS-Symposien werden gemeinsam von Studierenden
west- und osteuropäischer Hochschulen organisiert, um den Wissens-
und Erfahrungsaustausch zwischen Wissenschaftlern, Studierenden
und Praktikern aus dem Bereich Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft
in Europa zu fördern.
Der Name BOBCATSSS ist ein Akronym und steht für
die Anfangsbuchstaben der Gründer-Städte, die das BOBCATSSS
Symposium geschaffen und seit 1993 veranstaltet haben: Budapest,
Oslo, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Tampere, Stuttgart, Szombately,
Sheffield. Während der letzten Jahre haben sich zahlreiche
weitere Städte dem BOBCATSSS Netzwerk angeschlossen: Borås,
Riga, Kharkiv, Moscow, Tallinn, Torun, Warsaw, Sofia, Ljubljana,
Krakow, Bratislava, Osjiek, Zadar, Berlin und Potsdam."

Call for Papers für das Symposium 2008:
PROVIDING ACCESS TO INFORMATION FOR EVERYONE
Access to information is vital for the personal and
social growth of every individual. However, many people are facing
barriers in accessing information, whether they are technical issues,
political and legal issues, social issues or economical issues.
The goal of the BOBCATSSS 2008 symposium is to explore access to
information for everyone from the technical, political and legal,
social and economical point of view. The symposium would like to
identify the existing barriers in accessing information and to offer
an overview of new concepts, ideas and examples of good practice
in order to raise awareness and achieve possible solutions. Invited
are contributions in forms of papers, workshops or posters covering
the following topics:
Providing Access to Information for Everyone
TECHNICAL ASPECT
- Infrastructures, standards and interoperability
for universal access to information
- Open access supported by open source
- Digital repositories and document server (long
term preservation and access)
- Usability, service and interface design
POLITICAL AND LEGAL QUESTIONS
- Repression via information - withdrawal/censorship
- Bills and laws for LIS - an international composition
- Copyright aspect of open access and open source
initiative

in the development of information institutions

The target group are students. We are especially inviting workshop
contributions. Please send your proposal abstract (see the guidelines,
maximum 400 words in English including a short curriculum vitae,
